No matter how much people earn or how rich (or poor) they are, one common marriage problem that pops up time after time is financial problems in a marriage.

Money is part of daily life and the more you earn the more you spend so whether financial problems in a marriage are over how money is earned, how it is spent or how it is saved, money fights are one of those common marriage problems that form part of daily life.

People’s ideals and attitudes toward money are often learned in childhood and when married couple’s ideas on how to handle their finances widely differ, conflict in marriage is almost impossible to avoid.

If your marriage is struggling under the strain of financial problems there are a few simple steps you can take to start getting your finances back under control:

·    Consolidate your debts

·    Destroy your credit cards

·    Keeping a second bank account with limited funds for the use of the partner most prone to wasting money

·    Pay all monthly bills by standing order the day your salaries hit the bank

·    Divert some funds into a savings account as soon as you get paid for those unexpected bills.

Like with all marriage problems, financial problems in a marriage have to be resolved through strong communication and the setting of realistic goals.

Don’t forget, everyone has to have a little of something good so totally eliminating the funds to spend on what could be considered as luxuries will probably mean you financial plan will fail.

If you spend more than what you earn, set it out in black and white so it is plain to see. List all your incomings and outgoings and then put an action plan together to reduce your expenditure below your level of earnings and / or increase your earnings through overtime, second jobs or a change of career.
